Current Emergency Response by VDOF

We may not respond globally BUT we do respond to every part of Virginia and at times all across the nation helping others. We respond to more than wildfires, the VDOF is part of an all risk emergency response network of personnel and equipment.

Wildfires and other disasters can happen just about anytime anywhere. The Virginia Department of Forestry must remain vigilant and available 24/7/365. AND we do not do it alone, many fire departments, other state and federal agencies along with the private sector come to the aid ofthose in need, wherever - whenever that need may be.

The Southern Region Is Heating Up

It may only be a temporary weather related rash of activity or it may be a look at what were up against this Spring.

In addition to the few wildfires Virginia has seen recently 3 other states are reporting significant activity.

The 3 images below are from the 63 acre wildfire in Nelson County VA on the 19th.

A BAD begining to the New Year for  South Africa and Australia. Wildfires destroy thousands of acres, burn homes and place residents and firefighters in danger.

A fire in South Africa on Thursday exhibited extreme fire behavior, in the form of a fire whirl.

Thousands of Australians fled their homes Saturday as strong winds pushed bushfires across vast stretches of South Australia and Victoria.

Police have declared a major emergency and told residents that their lives are at risk.

South Australia’s fire chief said the blazes in the Adelaide Hills, northeast of Adelaide city, were the worst since the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983.

So far about five homes have been confirmed destroyed but authorities said that dozens more were feared lost.
